Stonehenge

Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wilthsire. It is 33 miles southwest of Bath and 88 miles west of London. For a day trip, you can take the train to Salisbury, which is 9 miles south of Stonehenge. It consists of a ring of standing stones, each 4.1 metres high, 2.1 metres wide and weighing 25 tons. Constructed from 2400 BC to 2000 BC, it could have been a burial ground from its earliest beginnings as deposits of human bone date back to early 3000 BC. It is one of the most famous landmarks in the country and is regarded as a cultural icon. The monument was classified as a UNESCO World Site Heritage in 1986.
