Birmingham

Located in West Midlands, Birmingham is 126 miles northwest of London and is the second largest city in the UK. It has an urban area of 231 sqm and a metro population of 3.7 million people. It is nicknamed “Venice of England” or one of the “Venice of the North” because of the many canals running through the city. Evidence suggest human activity dating back to 10,000 years ago. First settlement is believed to be around 600 by the Anglo Saxon and since then has grown rapidly in the next 1400 years through immigration and innovation. Over the last 200 years the city rose from market town into one of the fastest growing city in the UK, particularly in manufacturing and automotive industries. Today it is a European centre and shopping destination, as well as home to several good universities including University of Birmingham. This is a vibrant, fun and bustling city, with many things to do, to see and a wide diversity of cultures. Don’t forget to take a ride through the canals.
