Igreja Sao Francisco

The Order of the Franciscans was established in Porto in 1223 and operated from a small convent and church called St Francis of Assisi. In 1383 King Ferdinand I commissioned the Franciscans to build a larger church. The Church of St Francis was completed in 1425 and up until this day best reflects most the originally-designed Gothic church in Porto. The church is also noted for its magnificent Baroque inner decoration. Igreja Sao Francisco is declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
